Brooke in Paris

My Adventures in Paris.

I decided that I am not a fan of French cuisine. I am adventurous when it comes to eating and I will try anything but most french dishes are just much too much. Here is an excerpt from a restaurant recommendation I was just reading:
Start with sliced Lyonnaise sausage studded with pistachios and served with potato salad in delicious vinaigrette, or maybe a sauté of wild mushrooms; then try roast Bresse chicken with sautéed ceps or roast duck with olives. Finish up with the tarte fine de pomme
Lyonnaise sausage studded the pistachios? No thank you.
I do however love simple/street  french food : crepes, little quiches and ofcourse fromage : )  but I don’t have to go to a restaurant to enjoy these treats.
Below is a list of the foods I miss and why I miss them:
1.       New York Pizza……just because it’s the best $2 meal you can purchase.
2.       Eggs Benedict….I would love to have a nice brunch with a simple eggs benedict.
3.       Tasty, big, complex salads as entrée…..this one is difficult to describe but at most NY restaurants you can find a big salad you are satisfied with as your main course. They usually have a good dressing tons of fresh vegtables, fish or meat and sometimes in the summer fruit too.  They don’t have this at brasseries you can order a little side salad with mixed greens MAYBE tomatoes.
4.       Suhi…..kind of because I did find a great sushi restaurant here but it was a little gimicky. It was “ designer sushi” and the new rolls were presented as “the new spring collection” the menu read more like a look book. The sushi was good though!
5.       A simple grilled fish….its summer so I will pass on the duck, beef and steak served at all of these restaurants.
I’m in the process of satisfying a few of these cravings. For one, there are lots of great seafood restaurants in my area I have not ventured to yet where I will be able to get scallops, mussels, oysters, fish etc… Apparently a popular hotel here is known for their brunch so they must have eggs benedict but it will likely be 30 euros so I may have to wait on that one. As for the salads, I suppose I can make them my own.
I won’t give up I will continue to try new french places. I do love foie gras but I have not indulged yet.
